A hundred and sixty years later, a similar revolution is under way, a ground-shift in the way we think about health and illness, human suffering and strength. It is a revolution with the potential to reshape physical and mental health care practices, schools, social services, juvenile justice systems, communities,…

Sophie McAdam said… Hi Jane!
Are you free a little later for a chat by skype maybe? I have so much I want to ask you, both on a personal and professional level. But starting with the professional side, I am writing a rather controversial article and I´d love to discuss it with you if possible. I´ve been given just 2 days to write it up so things are kind of urgent! You can add me sophiemcadam81 if you have skype? Or message me back :) Thanks, and thank you again for this site. It´s helped my partner and I a lot personally.

Josh Puls said… Good morning from Wisconsin here! I am excited to be part of this connection! To help answer some of your questions Jane, I have just started my work with ACE's and am very new to everything. I have been with our agency for about a week and a half so far and am reading reading reading :)!! However, the more I read the more I am liking the ACE study and the practical application that it can be applied to. My background is in counseling and I can how useful it can be!
My work with the Children's Trust Fund here in Madison Wisconsin is in the realm of the Prevention Outreach Specialist and a big part of this position is working to implement ACE and TIC statewide, especially to areas that are not implementing this. I will be giving presentations about the work our agency does with ACE along with the research done in Wisconsin surrounding ACES.
That all being said any resources that you feel would be helpful in my research would be of great help to me!! Thank you for this connection and I look forward to working/communicating with all of you! I will also update my profile a bit as well :)!
Thanks!

Maxine Browne said… My name is Maxine Browne and I am the author of Years of Tears.
Could I be in an abusive relationship if I’m not being physically beaten?
Most of us think of physical assault when we discuss an abusive situation. However, many of us are brutalized by control tactics that cripple us both mentally and emotionally without a single trip to the hospital.
My children and I lived with a man who controlled everything. The end result of ten grueling years of mental and emotional abuse was three completely destroyed lives. In this book I share my story of abuse, recovery and hope.
Several things make Years of Tears a unique book. My children share what it was like to live with an abusive step-father. They describe the impact of psychological abuse at his hands and also of the abandonment by their mother due to his brainwashing techniques. I talk about psychological and emotional abuse and the red flags I missed that could be helpful to someone else.
