ACEs Connection

Healthy, happy kids grow up to create a healthy, happy world.

NorCal ACErs

The members of this group stretch from Santa Cruz to Forest Ranch, from Petaluma to Nevada City, and down into the Central Valley.

Since that's such a huge area, we have meetups in local areas. So far, that's been in Winters, Petaluma, San Francisco and San Mateo. Sometimes, two or three of us just have lunch to get acquainted, and find new ways to connect each others' work.

Hi Jane. I can make it on Thursday at 5:30, and would enjoy meeting you and others. I'll pencil it in my calendar.

Thank you, Rona

Hi Jennifer,

Home visiting programs are being successfully used in Yolo and Sacramento County's First Five Programs.  My program includes the interpersonal neurobiolgy and attachment research and most of it is evidence based.  I know that some Folsom Prison personnel are very open to any mental health interventions and dads need this intervention too.  I don't know about women's  prisons except that the state of Arizona has, in the past, mandated an Austraiian evidence based program.  Would love to talk more.

Thanks for your replies, Barbara and Grace! I am able to get to Sacramento, so coming north isn't a problem for me. But Jane, if interest percolates in the Bay area, I'm open to that as well.

Barbara - would love to hear more about your project, it sounds fantastic. I have been incubating an idea that would adapt a home visitation-type program to institution-based populations, ie incarcerated mothers to convey skills that reflect findings from all the neurodevelopment lit, as well as parenting. Would love to hear your thoughts on the idea ;-)

Hi Jennifer, Welcome to the NorCal ACErs group! There is no doubt that youth involved in the justice system would benefit from applying what we know about preventing ACEs.

I am working on a primary prevention parenting project that has shown promise with at-risk and homeless young parents in the Sacramento area.  I would like very much to meet with interested persons.  Barbara

Talks are in the works for a meeting in the next few months, but maybe Jane can help you get a group together closer to you in Berkeley.  There is definitely a need for your field of interest as most justice involved adolescents have a very high ACE score and probably need a trauma informed approach rather than a "corrections" approach.

Hi NorCal ACEs members!

Just joining the group as a Berkeley-based criminologist with interests in applying ACEs research in prevention and intervention for at-risk and justice engaged young people.

I see you all had a meet up last November and wondered whether there would be any interest in doing another one in the coming couple of months - August /September?

Looking for a trauma focused residential treatment placement for a teen foster youth in the state of CA.  Only one I've found is Hillsides in Pasadena.  Does anyone know others or have experience with Hillsides?  Would like to be able to make as strong a recommendation to court as possible.
